The Hidden Force: Chapter XII 🌇

Lost Queen

I leave the meadow and approach Adan hesitantly, knowing he’ll be disappointed too. He looks past me for a moment then seems to realize what happened.

“We’ll still find her,” he insists. But I’m not so sure she wants to be found. Why else would she leave?

“Let’s go back” I suggest.

He nods. We mount our horse and ride off. By now the sun is setting and the sky turns from an angry red to a soft orange and finally a calm, reassuring purple.

We arrive at twilight and there’s fireflies surrounding the town. Their soft glow is serene, filling my body with a warm feeling.

Itzel sees us and runs over to Adan. She hugs him and for a few moments they’re silent and at peace.

“What are you doing here?” Itzel asks, letting go of Adan.

“We were trying to find the Queen.” Adan answers for me.

Itzel looks suspiciously at me. I hope she doesn’t ask about the mirror. I’m not sure I’ll return it just yet.

“Are you going to stay here?” she asks. I’m already here so I might as well just stay.

“Yes, if that’s fine.”

“It’s encouraged,” Adan adds.

“Where would I stay? In one of these huts?” I ask.

“Not quite, you’re staying here with me.” Itzel says pointing to a large and luxurious 2 floor cabin.

As we go inside I see fancy things like inside the castle. It’s not as big or extravagant as the castle but it’s not as dangerous either. It’s better than any place I’ve ever stayed in that way.

There is a living room, dining hall, study/library , utility room, and kitchen. There are also 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.

The living room is in the front. The library is on the right and so is the dining hall. The utility room is on the left with the kitchen. The stairs spiral from the middle of the living room up to the second floor. On the second floor you can find the rest of the rooms.

There is wood flooring. The sofa, chairs, and bed are made of fine materials, feeling so to the touch. I can’t imagine living here even though Itzel already told me I’d be staying here.

“Do you like it?” Itzel asks, hopefully.

“It’s amazing!” I respond, feeling awestruck and at a loss for words.

“Good because it’s the best we have.” Itzel jokes. I nod, still in disbelief. This place is amazing.

Later that night we let Star into the stables. She looks rather comfortable making me wonder if my mom once laid her to rest here after a long day of riding. I wouldn’t doubt it. And I hope they once had a close bond like the one I wish I had with her. It just makes me wish we found her even more.

“Itzel?” I call out, looking from Star to her.

“Yes?” Itzel responds with a smile.

“What did you look like? You know before-?” I trail off but she knows what I’m meaning to say.

“I had soft brown eyes, wild curls for hair, skin that glistened in the sun, I barely remember but I’ve been told I used to be beautiful.” she sighs, obviously unhappy with what the King did to her. She looks away, lost in thought.

“I’ll make sure the spell cast on you is broken. Don’t worry.” she smiles at my response and I smile back.

I don’t know how I will fulfill my promise but there must be something or some way I can find to undo the spell. Once I learn how to control my own power I might even be able to undo it. Or the combined power of some powerful witches here can help.

The moon has risen now. I know we should probably head back to the cabin. We walk slowly back enjoying the sights and sounds of the night. Itzel and Adan talk as we head back. I know they still want the mirror. They won’t say it or try to scare me off but I know.

I lay down in a comfortable bed in the cabin. The soft warm sheets are nicer than the ones in the inn. Way nicer. I quickly doze off to sleep.
